Italian does not have a present perfect continuous tense:

I have been studying Italian for six years.

To express an action that began in the past, continues into the present and is still being done, Italian uses the following construction:

present tense + da + period of time

Here is an example:

Studio l'italiano da otto anni.

I have been studying Italian for …
