We always took a bus - direct from in front of the airport terminal to beside the Santa Maria Novella train station; apparently there's no a direct tram - but it started up since we've last been to Firenze. Our favourite hotel is Hotel Rosso 23 (https://www.hotelrosso23.com/) - right on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, so very close to the train station, very central - but the piazza is relatively quiet, at least compared to the nearby bustle. Note that the Hotel Rosso 23 now shares an entrance, lobby, check-in, etc with Hotel Garibaldi Blu next door...
I didn't realize that they extended the tram line to the airport. I never thought the trams were useful for tourists, but the extensions and updates seem more helpful now.
Took train from Rome. I prefer to stay in the Oltrano section just across the Ponte Vecchia
There is a delicious restaurant La Casalinga. Great ribolitta. Bus to Fiesole can be fun for part of day.
Thanks! I have friends who have been to "La Casalinga." I've never been to Fiesole, but, if I have time, I'll take the bus!

Grazie! This is very helpful. I'll check out that hotel.
